Beyond individual sensors or materials, we develop embodied sensing systems for physical AI based on soft, reconfigurable structures. These systems are designed not only to detect external stimuli, but also to physically respond, adapt, and interact with their surroundings through programmable shape transformation.
By integrating sensing, memory, and actuation into compliant materials and structural designs, our platforms can encode and process information through physical deformation and structural change. This embodied approach allows intelligent systems to move beyond passive signal collection and instead interact with the real world through contact, motion, gripping, twisting, and shape-dependent mechanical behavior.
Our research explores how soft material systems can serve as the sensory and interactive foundation of physical AI, enabling devices that perceive, remember, and respond to their environment in a more adaptive and physically integrated manner.
