  • We study soft engineering strategies that combine material behavior, structural design, and device integration to create shape-changing materials and structures. Our research focuses on how soft systems can be programmed to transform, fold, deploy, compress, and recover in response to external stimuli such as heat, mechanical force, and environmental change.
  • By leveraging shape memory polymers, mechanically adaptive architectures, and origami-inspired structural concepts, we design platforms that achieve large, reversible, and programmable deformation while maintaining functional stability. These systems are engineered not only for shape change itself, but also for preserving or enhancing device performance during folding, stretching, compression, and repeated mechanical cycling.
  • Through this approach, we aim to establish the material and structural foundation for next-generation soft devices, including reconfigurable electronics, deployable biomedical platforms, compressible displays, and adaptive sensing systems.
